Size & Type of Project – Apartment Building Restoration
Charlestowne North is an existing nine story apartment building constructed in the modernist style circa 1968. The building is steel framed with a composite concrete deck. The building has approximately 165 balconies. These balconies are constructed of mildly reinforced cast-in-place concrete. Original building framing plans were not available.
After 40+ years of service, the balconies exhibited typical signs of structural deterioration such as cracking, spalls and delaminations. Building management therefore decided to restore and repair the balconies in 2011.
MCE Scope of Services
Meyer Consulting Engineers Corporation was retained first as a lender’s peer review consultant and then as the Materials Testing & Inspection Agency for privately funded construction. Our inspection and testing work encompassed soils fills and backfills, foundations and structural construction. Materials’ testing was performed in our nearby certified laboratory.
