Project Description

Size & Type of Project – Phased Airport Terminal Modernization

The new north terminal at Reagan National is a $1 billion renovation centering on a new concourse specifically designed for commuters.  Over 1.2 million travelers per year pass through current Gate 35X at the north end of the terminal creating a logistical nightmare due to busing, frequent delays and security concerns.  Connecting passengers must leave the main terminal and reenter to access this northern gate.  To make room for improvements, the current program calls for the Airport Authority’s executive offices and two hangars at the north end of the airport complex to be demolished.  In their place the new north concourse terminal will be constructed connected to and integral with the existing concourses.  The work will also include improvements to the National Hall, a glass enclosed walkway on the concourse level of Terminals B & C that house shops and restaurants.  This enclosed walkway now will become a secure area.  Other project components include general infrastructure improvements, road improvements and a new parking garage expected to be completed in 2021.
