This commission consisted of phased renovations and additions for one of Maryland’s largest regional heath care providers. More children are born at Holy Cross than any other Maryland hospital.
Holy Cross Hospital will soon complete a $78 Million expansion and modernization effort, of which the North Addition is a critical component. The North Addition consists of a new five-story structure for community education and professional office use. In addition, the work also included a new main entrance and separate entrance and elevator for the Ob/Gyn clinic. Renovated area consisted of approximately 43,459 SF. The new construction area was 75,282 SF.
Construction began in March 2004 and was completed in September 2005 at a cost of $21.9 Million. In addition to the building expansion and renovation components, the work also included significant site infrastructure improvements such as on-grade parking and entrance modifications.
MCE Scope of Services
Meyer Consulting Engineers was retained by the Hospital to provide full-service construction materials testing & inspection services. These quality control responsibilities were performed in accordance with Montgomery County Maryland Complex Structures inspection procedures. Our staff inspected structural construction inclusive of deep foundations, soils fills & backfills, floor flatness, cast-in-place concrete, reinforcing steel, formwork and exterior cladding. Off site testing of soils and concrete samples was conducted at MCE’s WACEL certified laboratory.
Key MCE personnel included Michael A. Moran, III, P.E. (Principal Quality Control Engineer), Charles Fountain (Inspections Project Manager), Igor Bengert (Senior Structural Inspector) and Tim Swift (Materials Testing Laboratory Manager).
