Friendship Tech is a new secondary public charter school adjacent to the Saint Elizabeth’s campus in SE Washington. The new school is three stories plus penthouse with an underground parking garage and consists of approximately 74,000 gross framed square feet. The building is concrete framed utilizing 5,500 cubic yards. The school has a green roof with LEED Silver certification pending and was designed to be the first “green” school in the District.
The new facility is a college preparatory S.T.E.M. school focusing on science, technology, engineering and science and accommodates students grades 6 thru 12. Students can earn a high school diploma as well as college credits
MCE Scope of Services
Meyer Consulting Engineers was the Structural Engineer of Record for all phases of the project. The work proceeded under a fast track, design/build format with the team led by Turner Construction. Schematic design began with a structural systems feasibility study in March 2012. Construction documents were completed in September 2012. The permit was expedited using the District of Columbia self certification process. Construction began in October 2012 and was completed in July 2014 at a cost of $35.7 Million.
